As a leading property developer that builds, manages and owns world-class commercial complexes in China, Hang Lung Properties has been a pioneer in the planning and building of sustainable developments. The concept of sustainability is also deeply ingrained in all our business operations. We believe that participation by all levels of staff, in particular the top management, is indispensable to the successful implementation of corporate strategies for sustainable development. As such, environmental consideration is incorporated into all operational processes, allowing all staff to participate in the process.
Ever mindful of our unique role and responsibilities as a top-tier property developer in Hong Kong and the Mainland, and in order to ensure that our activities are sustainable economically, socially and environmentally, our goals for sustainable development specifically addresses our environment, our people and our community:
- To ensure the highest standards of governance, transparency, honesty and integrity in our operations;
- To construct environmentally-friendly and sustainable buildings that add significant and tangible value to the communities we serve;
- To promote a green environment wherever we work and in our operational practices;
- To be "the employer of choice" by ensuring a respectful, harmonious and safe work environment, providing the necessary training and career development opportunities for our people; and
- To acknowledge the immense support we receive from the communities we serve by making meaningful contributions to them either through participating in, or sponsoring, worthwhile causes and initiatives.
Our continual efforts in fostering sustainable development in the communities that we serve have gained us prominent recognitions in both of the local and international arena, including but not limited to -
Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index Series
With our continuous commitment in promoting sustainability in terms of corporate governance, environmental, social and work environments, we were selected in the Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index and the Hang Seng (Mainland and Hong Kong) Corporate Sustainability Index, which were launched in July 2010. The indices are the first of their kind in Hong Kong and are a vital reference tool for the investment community and the general public as a benchmark for socially responsible investments and for tracking the stock price performance of constituent companies.
Caring Company Scheme
We are named a “Caring Company” by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service, a reaffirmation of our commitment to corporate social responsibility and related achievements in this area. The recognition scheme raises public awareness of good corporate citizenship as demonstrated by the business sector. Awarded companies have demonstrated inspiring corporate social responsibility initiatives through caring for the community, their employees and the environment.
Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED)
In the international realm, we benchmark our environmental performance with a very high standard, namely the gold level of the Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) Core and Shell certification issued by the U.S. Green Building Council. As of 2016, all of our 10 buildings in mainland China were awarded gold certifications or pre-certifications under LEED.
In Hong Kong, our residential project, 23-39 Blue Pool Road, also received the Gold Level certificate under the LEED for Homes. It is thus far the largest project in China to gain the certification, as well as the first project in the world registered under the International Pilot Scheme.
