2025 marks 60 years of collaboration between Hang Lung and Clean Living—a partnership built on mutual respect, forward thinking, and a shared dedication to quality service.
In 1965, a chance meeting between Mr. Chan Tseng-hsi, Founder of Hang Lung, and Mr. Kenji Igarashi, Founder of Hakuyosha, laid the foundation for Hang Lung Hakuyosha (恒隆白洋舍). As Hong Kong’s living standards and appreciation for quality grew, Mr. Chan saw an opportunity to introduce premium dry-cleaning services to tap into emerging demand for better grooming. The collaboration was not only a pioneering local venture, but also one of the first examples of a Japanese enterprise establishing roots overseas.
Since then, Clean Living has grown into a household name in dry cleaning, with services covering almost all of Hong Kong. The partnership continues to thrive, upheld by Hakuyosha Japan’s annual visits to train the Clean Living Hong Kong team, and reciprocal training programs that send our staff to Japan to learn from their expertise.
This long-standing relationship is symbolized by a crystal turtle—a gift from Mr. Takeo Igarashi, the elder son of Mr. Kenji Igarashi who succeeded his father as Chairman in 1942 to Mr. Chan—which has been cherished and passed down through generations in both families.
As we reflect on six decades of partnership, we celebrate not only a successful business alliance, but also a cross-cultural friendship that continues to deepen and inspire.
