(Hong Kong, May 26, 2014) Hang Lung Properties Limited (HKSE stock code: 101) organized a memorable and fun-filled Dragon Boat Festival party for more than 30 elderly people last Saturday (May 24).
Celebrating the Festival in advance, over 20 volunteers from the Hang Lung As One Volunteer Team attended the party together with representatives from the social enterprise, Jade Club. The volunteers kicked the party off by leading the elderly in performing a “Happy Chair Dance”. Under the lively guidance of volunteers, the elderly partygoers were able to get some exercises at the activity, helping them maintain their physical and mental health while also making them feel young at heart.
The most senior participant, 87-year-old Ms Leung, said, “I tried different kinds of dances when I was young, but I never imagined that I would dance on chairs. It has been most interesting! The Happy Chair Dance has made me feel light and I am going to dance again with my friends!”
The volunteers also joined the seniors in making special Dragon Boat Festival rice dumplings. After working together to make the festive treats, the volunteers and seniors enjoyed eating the dumplings in a truly heart-warming atmosphere filled with laughter.
Ms Angel Kwok, Head of Human Resources of Hang Lung Properties Limited, is a long-time volunteer who has taken part in many different activities. She said, “I am glad that Hang Lung Properties spreads love and care to the community through initiatives like the Dragon Boat Festival party. This was the first time for me to dance with our elderly friends and to learn how to make rice dumplings from the seasoned experts. They taught us many festive traditions and I personally learnt a lot from this meaningful activity.”
