(Hong Kong, June 23, 2014) Co-organized by Hang Lung Properties Limited (HKSE stock code: 101), The Institute of Mathematical Sciences and the Department of Mathematics of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Hang Lung Mathematics Awards ("HLMA") celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. To mark this special occasion, a new column "HLMA Fun Corner" will be published in the company newsletter Connections starting from the June 2014 issue. The Corner will feature articles on the fascinating world of mathematics, prepared by distinguished mathematicians who sit on the various HLMA Committees.
Mr Ronnie C. Chan, Chairman of Hang Lung Properties Limited, said, "Mathematics is the origin of technology. The idea of HLMA to train up students interest to mathematical research from their early ages is brilliant. It is an excellent experience for them to have the chance to listen to the comments from world renowned mathematicians on their research works."
Mr Chan met with past HLMA winners today (June 23) and shared fond memories of their mathematical journey with HLMA.
In the past 10 years, this prestigious biennial event has succeeded in nurturing around 1,500 secondary students, unleashing their creativity and potential in mathematics, and has given HK$5 million in scholarships to assist students in their university studies and further pursuit.
In 2014, the sixth HLMA has attracted a total of 68 teams from 42 schools. More than 200 students will participate and compete for up to HK$1 million in prize money and scholarships. Winning teams will be announced at the awards presentation ceremony on December 11, 2014, at the Asia Society Hong Kong Center.
