(Hong Kong, December 22, 2014) The Hang Lung volunteer team specially arranged a poon choi gathering at CCC Heep Woh College in Tsz Wan Shan for about 50 elderly people to get together and celebrate one of the important Chinese festivals – the Winter Solstice Festival. Volunteers also prepared nutritious soup for the elderly participants, as this gathering marked the final activity of “Hang Lung x Lok Kwan Community Cuisine.”
In early 2014, Hang Lung Properties donated HK$1 million to set up “Hang Lung x Lok Kwan Community Cuisine,” a program run together with Lok Kwan Social Services that provided affordable and nutritious meals to elderly residents of Wong Tai Sin and Tsz Wan Shan throughout the year. In order to reach more beneficiaries, the Hang Lung Soup Delivery Team was also established to deliver seasonal soup to elderly residents who were not able to enjoy the meals provided by the Community Cuisine program due to health problems that affected their mobility. During the six soup deliveries that took place, the Team sent out 300 kettles of soup, sharing love and care with many elderly beneficiaries.
Mr. Chuk Fai Kwan, Assistant Director – Corporate Communications of Hang Lung Properties, who grew up in Tsz Wan Shan, participated in all six soup deliveries. “I lived in Tsz Wan Shan for 20 years and that’s the reason I pay special attention to the people and happenings in this district,” he said. “This is the place where I grew up. It is really meaningful to celebrate the important Winter Solstice Festival with the elderly residents of this neighborhood and Hang Lung volunteers.”
Apart from providing the venue for the poon choi gathering, CCC Heep Woh College, where Mr. Kwan attended secondary school, also recruited 20 students to serve the elderly alongside Hang Lung volunteers, aiming to encourage students to inherit the spirit of serving the community.
