Fashion Walk fully supports renowned contemporary artist Yoshitomo Nara’s first major solo exhibition in Hong Kong and will host live broadcast of Nara’s two public lectures.

(Hong Kong, February 27, 2015) Fashion Walk, the iconic shopping destination of Hang Lung Properties Limited in Causeway Bay, will fully support renowned contemporary artist Yoshitomo Nara’s first major solo exhibition hosted by Asia Society Hong Kong Center in Hong Kong namely, “The Hong Kong Jockey Club Presents – Life is Only One: Yoshitomo Nara”, held at the Chantal Miller Gallery, Asia Society Hong Kong Center. As the outreach partner of this event, Fashion Walk will host live broadcast of Nara’s two public lectures to familiarize the local community with his works and help them achieve a deeper understanding of the artist thought-provocative works in all aspects of life.

The exhibition will take place from March 6 to July 26 at The Asia Society Hong Kong Center with free admission. Other than the exhibition, the public can participate in a series of public lectures, educational activities and workshops to better understand Nara’s creative path. Among those activities, there will be interactive games hosted on Fashion Walk’s Facebook fan-page. Participants can visit the page on or before March 3 and share their personal interpretation of Nara’s “mono no aware” expressions. 20 lucky winners will be able to win two tickets to Nara’s public lectures and five of them will also get a copy of the limited edition “OH! MY GOD! I MISS YOU! 2001” poster. The Main Block entrance of Fashion Walk will be the site for the live broadcast of Nara’s two public lectures on March 6 and 7, bringing his works to the community at large. Those watching the live broadcast will have the chance to win limited-edition prizes through interactive games. Prizes include the limited edition 1999 Nara Puddle Flowers Postcard collection and the 2003 first edition Nara Pup Cup.

The theme of this exhibition is derived from one of Nara’s works, “Life is Only One”. The juxtaposition of the innocent-looking girl and the human skull on the canvas prompts us to think about a big question about the fleeting nature of life. Exhibition visitors will be able to explore the journey of life through access to numerous works by Nara, including paintings, sketches, photographs, sculptures, and mixed media installations. The exhibition will showcase works of Nara in the past two decades, including three never-before-seen paintings, 17 new drawings, and some puppy sculptures created specifically for this exhibition.

Other than the exhibition, Nara will also hold two public lectures in Hong Kong. In the “Life is Only One - Yoshitomo Nara in conversation with Fumio Nanjo” lecture, alongside guest curator Fumio Nanjo, Nara will explain the curatorial approach of the exhibition – how the big-headed girls prompt audiences to continue questioning bigger philosophical issues – leading the local community to better appreciate the deeper meaning that pervades the exhibition. Simultaneously, Nara will share the inspiration behind his works at the “Talking to the Past, Talking to Today – Yoshitomo Nara” lecture. He will explain the genesis of his iconic big-headed portraits through a multi-dimensional, audio-visual survey of his inspirations and passions.
