Hang Lung Properties’ volunteers celebrate the achievement of more than 14,000 hours of community service in 2015.

(Hong Kong, February 26, 2016) Hang Lung Properties has set a new record for the Company for the time devoted by its 1,500 volunteers in service to the community. Enthusiastically upholding the “Hang Lung As One” spirit, the Company’s volunteer teams last year organized more than 100 activities in Hong Kong and mainland China. The teams spent more than 14,000 hours in these activities, an increase of more than 20% over 2014.

Hang Lung Properties held a ceremony last night (February 25) to recognize the contributions made by volunteers. Mr. Kaw Kin Man, who has been with the Company for only one and a half years as Senior Guest Service Associate at The Peak Galleria, contributed more than 174 hours through the team and was the top volunteer in 2015. Kaw said, “Although I have to work the night shifts, volunteer work allows me to help people in need while at the same time acquiring new knowledge. I learnt more about the colonial style of the buildings in Central through the Architectural Tour. The sacrifice of a few hours of sleep is well worth it.”

Local artist Joyce Cheng, who is heavily involved in many charitable causes, attended the recognition ceremony and shared her experiences. She said, “My mother taught me since I was young to help people in need whenever I can. Therefore, I started to be a volunteer when I was in school. I believe voluntary work can make people become more confident as both the beneficiaries and volunteers themselves will be happy and happiness gives one’s confidence.”

Mr. C.F. Kwan, Assistant Director (Corporate Communications), who is also the Convenor of the Social Welfare Department’s Sub-committee on the Promotion of Corporate Volunteering, presented certificates to outstanding volunteers at the ceremony. He said, “Hang Lung is committed to creating social value for the communities. Apart from creating value on the economic front, we also promote voluntary work to serve people in need. Upholding the business philosophy of We Do It Right, we will launch a series of programs under the theme of Better Me, Better Society in which both volunteers and beneficiaries will benefit, injecting positive energy into the society.”

Hang Lung Properties established the “Hang Lung As One” volunteer teams in Hong Kong as well as in mainland China cities where the Company operates, namely Shanghai, Shenyang, Jinan, Wuxi, Tianjin, Dalian, Kunming and Wuhan. The aim is to serve the community in three areas: youth development, environmental protection, and service to the elderly. The Team in Hong Kong organized a wide variety of activities last year, including accompanying primary school students in exploring the fun of mathematics (Hang Lung Mathematics Tutorial Classes); training as tour guides to help young people discover their creative potential (Architectural Tours); enabling elderly people to enjoy a taste of the trendy social life and hobbies (“Back to Teenage, Be An Arty Youth” program).

In 2016, Hang Lung’s volunteer teams will continue to organize activities under the theme of Better Me, Better Society. Volunteers can better understand that serving the community can be of benefit to themselves as well as contributing to a sustainable living environment.
