Hang Lung’s Standard Chartered Bank Building Headquarters Becomes the First Existing Commercial Building in Hong Kong to Achieve Platinum Rating under BEAM Plus

The Standard Chartered Bank Building of Hang Lung Properties received the Platinum Rating under the BEAM Plus V1.2 for Existing Buildings, becoming the first existing commercial building in Hong Kong to have achieved this recognition.

(Hong Kong, March 24, 2016) Hang Lung Properties Limited (HKSE stock code: 00101) is pleased to announce that the Company’s headquarters, the Standard Chartered Bank Building in Central, has achieved the Platinum Rating under the BEAM Plus V1.2 for Existing Buildings from the Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC). It is the first existing commercial building in Hong Kong to achieve this level of recognition, and stands as a soaring testament to the efforts and persistence of Hang Lung in contributing to the sustainable development of the local community.
 
Fully living up to the business philosophy, We Do It Right, Hang Lung is committed to incorporating green features in the management and operations of all its properties. In achieving these grand aims at the Standard Chartered Bank Building, Hang Lung has invested HK$30 million to upgrade the central air conditioning system by converting the air-cooled chiller system into a water-cooled chiller system including the installation of variable speed water-cooled chillers, high efficiency pumps, variable-speed cooling towers, high quality insulation materials, use of an environmental friendly refrigerant, as well as a computerized building automation system for improving system efficiency, saving energy and reducing carbon emissions.

Beyond Hong Kong, Hang Lung's projects on the Mainland also endeavor to integrate into the surrounding environment. All of Hang Lung’s new projects on the Mainland have been awarded either certifications or pre-certifications under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) for Core and Shell Development – Gold Level, by the U.S. Green Building Council.
 
BEAM Plus is a comprehensive environmental assessment scheme recognized by the HKGBC. Projects registered for BEAM Plus certification are assessed across six areas including water use, site aspects, energy use, indoor environmental quality, materials aspects, and innovations and additions. In addition to the Standard Chartered Bank Building, another major Hang Lung property, The Peak Galleria, has already achieved the Gold Rating under the BEAM Plus V1.1 for Existing Buildings in 2015, joining the ranks of the city’s most recognised landmarks of sustainable development.
