(Hong Kong, July 24, 2016) Hang Lung Properties’ Assistant Director (Corporate Affairs) Ms. Bella Chhoa, together with Hang Lung volunteers, accompanied a group of children from underprivileged families to participate in the “Exploring Cantonese Opera” workshop yesterday (July 23). Ms. Chhoa, who is also the Chairperson of Hang Lung’s Sustainability Committee, supported the company’s volunteer work and brought along her daughter to take part in the event. Together with the children, they received an initiation into the basic techniques of Cantonese Opera. In addition to learning the distinctive style of falsetto singing, performing the water sleeve dance and mastering stage props, Ms. Chhoa even helped to apply the characteristic Cantonese Opera makeup for the children, transforming them into stunning actresses and heroic actors.

The “Exploring Cantonese Opera” workshop is the first episode of the “Cultural Heritage Series” recently launched by the Hang Lung As One volunteer team. Over the coming months, Hang Lung volunteers will accompany the younger generation to get a taste of traditional arts and crafts including the Fire Dragon Dance for the Mid-Autumn Festival, Moveable Type Printing, and the Bamboo Theatre. Hang Lung hopes that the youngsters will be inspired to think about the importance of preserving our cultural heritage and making them a sustainable part of our lives.
