(Hong Kong, September 25, 2016) The Hang Lung As One volunteer team yesterday organized a guided tour of Tai Po for a group of more than 30 secondary school students from Tsuen Wan. The in-depth visit took in a number of Tai Po’s historic spots including the Old Tai Po Police Station, the Old District Office North, the Hong Kong Railway Museum, Man Mo Temple, and Kwong Fuk Bridge, among other sites. Also joining the tour was Hang Lung Properties’ Independent Non-Executive Director, Ms. Anita Fung, and Hang Lung architects, who took on the role of docents and set out to inspire students to have a better understanding of Tai Po, an important bazaar town of the northeastern New Territories even before the 19th century.

Deeply interested in history and archeology, Ms. Fung encouraged students to understand more about history which will be beneficial for their future career development. She said, “Although it has become very easy for us to search for any historical information on internet nowadays, the hands-on experience in visiting every historic spot and listening to all the stories is simply irreplaceable. “

The Hang Lung As One volunteer team is committed to fostering youth development and has organized this thematic Architectural Tour program for the third consecutive year. Hang Lung volunteers are professionally trained to become docents and to give students a hands-on experience and understanding of the city’s culture and development over time through the architectural landmarks. This year, volunteers have already organized tours for students to explore Yau Ma Tei and Sham Shui Po. To-date, over 240 students have benefitted from the tours while more than 140 volunteer docents have been trained.
