(Hong Kong, October 10, 2016) The Hang Lung As One volunteer team – the platform through which Hang Lung Properties gives back to the communities in which it operates – has been awarded the second runner-up for its Architectural Cultural Tour program at the 2014-16 Best Corporate Volunteer Service Project Competition organized by the Steering Committee on Promotion of Volunteer Services of Social Welfare Department. This honor recognizes Hang Lung staff for the good utilization of their professional knowledge and expertise in inspiring the younger generation with an eagerness to explore the history and cultural development of Hong Kong through an appreciation of architecture, as well as in promoting corporate volunteering.
The 2014-16 Best Corporate Volunteer Service Project Competition aims to encourage corporations to deploy their expertise in corporate volunteering. This year, a total of 27 projects from 25 corporations were submitted to compete for a total of 6 honors under the category of Other Corporations.
As a top-tier property developer, Hang Lung has a pool of talent with a diverse range of professional qualifications. The Architectural Cultural Tour program has attracted a Board Member, a number of senior executives who are also registered architects and surveyors, and also staff from various departments to participate. Leveraging on their professional knowledge and expertise, they went into the communities together with the students and visited renowned historical buildings in different districts. The program has made full and productive use of existing staff resources to expand the vision of the city’s youths, and establish an outstanding platform for the sustainability of local history and culture.
Having joined the program as docent, Mr. Arnold Chan, Officer (Leasing & Management) said, “I love to be in touch with the youths. During the tour, I was able to walk together with them and, at the same time, use a person and concrete approach to tell them lots of stories filled with my personal experiences, allowing them to understand more about Hong Kong, the place where we were born and raised. The program also gave me a chance to learn more about architecture, which is useful to my current studies for a degree in surveying.”
Launched in July 2012, the Hang Lung As One volunteer team has given its support to various kinds of social services, with fostering youth development as one of its major focal points. For the third consecutive year, the Architectural Cultural Tour has brought over 240 students to visit the Central and Western districts, Wan Chai, Yau Ma Tei, Sham Shui Po, and Tai Po.
