(Hong Kong, August 26, 2014) As the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, 30 volunteers from Hang Lung Properties Limited became bakery apprentices to make moon cakes for the elderly.

Under the tutelage of Hang Lung’s chef Mr. Lo Wai Kuen, volunteers learned how to make healthy moon cakes using low sugar white lotus seed paste. The volunteers made over 100 healthy moon cakes and these would be given away during Hang Lung’s Mid-Autumn Festival party for the elderly, which will be held on the evening of August 31.

Ricky Tsang, Assistant Director – Head of Corporate Audit of Hang Lung Properties Limited, who was one of Chef Lo’s bakery apprentices during the event, said, “I am a novice at making moon cakes. At the beginning, I thought rolling dough would be very easy, but it turned out to be tough work. In order to make a thin and soft moon cake skin, it’s necessary to find the right balance of force, temperature and humidity. Learning how to make moon cakes was an unforgettable experience.” He also said that Hang Lung embodies corporate social responsibility by encouraging and supporting staff to give back to society through volunteering and helping others. “Apart from sharing love and care with the elderly, the event also gave our staff the chance to cooperate with one another, further enhancing cohesion within the Company.”

After a demonstration by Chef Lo, volunteers tried their hand at making their own moon cakes. After more than an hour of hard work, the volunteers were all amazed when they took more than 100 moon cakes stamped with Hang Lung’s logo out of the oven. The volunteers look forward to giving them away to the elderly at the Mid-Autumn Festival party.
